On 29 September 2019, Camilo Enciso, Director of the Anticorruption Institute, spoke to Caracol News about those candidates who are prohibited from participating in the upcoming local and regional elections.
He said that in these cases, the candidates “should announce their withdrawal from any aspiration they have for that position by popular election and no longer campaign, because if they are then elected it will be possible to penalize them”.
Similarly, he referred to the sanctions that political parties could receive for their endorsement of prohibited candidates, including fines, the suspension of resources to which they are entitled for the restitution of votes and the cancellation of their legal status.
